I became a member of the Monte Rio community in 2008, when my husband and I bought our very first house here. Though we still commute to SF during the week for work, I was very interested in becoming active here and responded to the notice that Peter placed in the paper looking for anyone interested in starting a Friends of Monte Rio organization.
I am co founder of my own non profit company, The Working Group, a strategic media production company that documents stories focused on issues of workplace issues; race and diversity, and encouraging democracy and citizen participation.
My other work has focused on community organizing and outreach with various groups including farmworkers, service and health care workers and arts educators. |

Mike is a third generation native San Franciscan.
The Murphy family started vacationing here in 1910 and bought their first family home in Monte Rio in 1949. Mike is a retired SF Fire captain and has been happily married to Lotte for 42 years. Together they have 2 children and 2 grandchildren.
Mike sees the Friends of Monte Rio as a great way to restore some of the community vitality he fondly remembers from his youth and would like to secure for many generations to come. |

I retired to Monte Rio in 2002. I joined many community organizations: the Guerneville library, senior center; Monte Rio election volunteering; the local Community Church; KGGV radio station. Most recently I won election to Monte Rio's Recreation and Park District Board. Along with Rhian Miller and Mike Murphy, we founded the "Friends of Monte Rio" in 2010.
I hold a degree in Math/Physics from the University of Arizona and attended graduate school in Computer Science ten years later. I served three years in the US Army, beginning a 40-year career in computers, software, systems, and consulting, all around the world. |
